İstanbul marks Day of Persons with Disabilities with film festival

The sixth edition of the International Barikat (Barricade) Film Festival, which comes on the occasion of this week’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, opened on Tuesday with a parade in front of the Galatasaray High School on İstiklal Avenue.

Modern Hollywood classics “Rain Man” and “Forrest Gump,” Majid Majidi’s acclaimed 1999 film “The Color of Paradise,” the 2011 French drama “The Intouchables” and two Turkish films, including the 2013 comedy-drama “Gozumun Nuru” (Eye Am), are among the films being shown at the festival. The program also features concerts by musician Cahit Berkay and the band Yeni Turku.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is marked annually on Dec. 3. The theme for the 2015 observances is “Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities.”
