Iranian Defense Minister: “We support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan”

Baku: “Expansion of relations between Iran and Azerbaijan is based on historical and religious closeness,” said Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan at the joint conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, APA reports quoting Mehr news agency.

He noted that the positions of Iran and Azerbaijan regarding regional issues are the same: “We discussed military, security, economic, regional and international issued during the meeting. I’m pleased to say that we have common opinions.”

Hossein Dehqan also thanked the Azerbaijani government and people for their position on the Iranian nuclear issue.

As for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Iranian minister said that his country supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and has already adopted the four resolutions of the United Nations, which demand to return of the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

Dehqan noted that the Azerbaijani President’s recent visit to Iran became a new stage in cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian minister said the radical forces in the region stand against Iran-Azerbaijan relations and underlined that it is important not to react provocations.
