Industrial turnover index falls 0.2 pct in February

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- Turkey’s industrial turnover index fell by 0.2 percent in February over the previous month, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) indicated on Monday.

The total calendar-adjusted industrial turnover index grew by 20.3 percent in January year-on-year, according to the data.

In the main industry groups, the highest monthly growth in industrial turnover was seen in industrial goods, with a 3.1 percent increase, while energy turnover grew by 2.2 percent and non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.9 percent.

Looking at industry subsectors, turnover of wood and wood and cork products (with the exception of furniture) increased by 6.3 percent in February over the previous month, while turnover of fabricated metal products rose by 5 percent. Within the manufacturing industry, tobacco products saw the largest drop in turnover at 22 percent, followed by leather and related products with a 6.2 percent decrease.

The data also revealed that turnover in basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations fell by 5 percent in February compared to the previous month.
