IhsanoIlu dismisses claims of neutrality between Israel and Palestine

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- Joint presidential candidate Ekmeleddin IhsanoIlu rejected some claims that he said Turkey should remain neutral in the conflict between Israel and Palestine saying that no one cannot be neutral between aggressor and victim.

Paying a visit to Palestinian Embassy in Ankara on Tuesday, IhsanoIlu commented on intensifying attacks carried out by Israel in Gaza. Referring to some claims about him that he said Turkey should be neutral in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, IhsanoIlu said “I have never said and would never say Turkey should remain neutral regarding the issue of Palestine. You cannot remain neutral [in a conflict] between an oppressor and a victim,” said IhsanoIlu.

IhsanoIlu, who served for nine years as the secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), underlined that he has made significant contributions to the Palestinian cause. “I have done great service towards this issue for nine years. Thanks to me, the Goldstone Report [which accused Israel of using disproportionate force and deliberately harming civilians] was prepared. I made the ceasefire possible between Fatah and Hamas in Gaza in 2006. I collected 55 votes for Palestine to be accepted as a member of the United Nations.”
