Another tree planting campaign, initiated by IDEA Public Association took place in Baku’s Badamdar settlement on December 5.

Held as part of the project “Let’s replace each sheet of paper with leaves”, the event seeks to promote reducing paper consumption, environmental protection and efficient use of waste.

The event was attended by IDEA activists, as well as Badamdar’s public representatives. Some 1,500 various tree species were planted during the campaign.

This March, IDEA and the State Agency for Citizens’ Service and Social Innovation under the Azerbaijani President started to jointly realize the project, establishing collection points of used paper near ASAN service center in Baku and the country’s regions.

Under the project, the organizers will plant one tree for every 50 kg of paper. So far, the campaign has collected about 150 tonnes of waste paper, which have been sent for recycling. Thanks to these efforts, as many as 3,000 trees were planted in the capital.

Launched by Heydar Aliyev Foundation Vice President Leyla Aliyeva in 2011, the IDEA is implementing some large-scale local and international projects to protect the environment and to promote innovative approaches towards solving environmental problems.

The campaign is based on the principles of dialogue, action, leadership, and education – all the essential components for fostering positive and sustainable environmental change.

One of the most notable activities of the IDEA in the past years has been a massive tree planting campaigns, during which more than 5 million trees have been planted.
