The recent seizure of a major media group by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which has drawn worldwide outrage as yet another shocking attack on journalists and freedom of expression in Turkey, has been summarized in a video.
The video narrates the events at the ipek Media Group following a government-backed court decision last week to appoint trustees to the groupand’s parent company, Koza ipek Holding. The media outlets in the group have been fierce critics of the AK Party government.
The takeover of the management of Koza ipek Holdingand’s 22 companies, including TV stations Bugandun TV, Kanaltandurk and two newspapers, came just days before Turkey is set to have a repeat parliamentary election on Nov. 1. The move has intensified concerns about the deteriorating state of freedom of entrepreneurship and of the media in Turkey.
