Hollande: France to remain committed to its obligation as MG co-chair country

French President François Hollande has sent a letter of congratulations to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of May 28 – Republic Day.

The letter reads as follows:

Dear Mr President, I sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of your country’s national holiday – Republic Day and wish peace, prosperity and tranquility for the people of Azerbaijan. I extend my gratitude once again for the hospitality shown during my visit to Baku on April 25.

I’m more than happy with the growing bilateral cooperation that relies on mutual confidence and friendship. I wish our mutual partnership further develops and diversifies. The Azerbaijani-French University, whose basic principles we agreed on during my latest visit to your country, is extremely important in terms of offering benefit for the two countries’ youth.

I assure you that as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair country, France will remain committed to its obligation on a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has been continuing since long ago and is a major obstacle on development in the Caucasus region.

As I noted at the Riga Summit of the Eastern Partnership, I am of the opinion that EU-Azerbaijan relations should continue and strengthen on the basis of mutual respect. In these terms, I wish negotiations aimed at modernizing a strategic partnership are soon achieved.
