HDP appeals to top election board for cancelation of Nov. 1 election

Journalist Mehmet Baransu, who has been in jail for nine months due to a government-orchestrated investigation, called on former Deputy Prime Minister Bandulent Arinandc in his column published in the Taraf daily on Monday, asking him to represent those being persecuted by the government as a lawyer.
Baransu was detained and arrested in March for publishing classified documents from a 2004 National Security Council (MGK) meeting during which council members had discussed an action plan targeting the faith-based Gandulen movement.
Explaining the reason for the request, Baransu said: and”Iand’m making this proposal to you to represent us as a lawyer so that you wonand’t have the chance to say andlsquoI didnand’t know [about the unlawful practices suffered] they [government officials] deceived us,and’ in the future. I invite you to represent people who have been accused as part of the andlsquoparallel [state]and’ lie.and”
The and”parallel stateand” and and”parallel structureand” are terms invented by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to refer to the faith-based Hizmet movement, which he launched a battle against following operations staged on Dec. 17 as part of a corruption probe in which senior members of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government were implicated.
The imprisoned journalist invited Arinandc to Silivri Prison as a lawyer representing him and others who are persecuted by the AK Party government, saying, and”If you have courage and a conscience, Iand’m waiting for you in Silivri.and” Baransu added, and”I would like to come to you, but Iand’m under arrest for uncovering a coup plan against you [the government].and”
Referring to the handcuffed women detained as part of a government-backed police operation targeting the Gandulen movement in Manisa, Baransu stated that he was also handcuffed while he testified in the courtroom. and”Donand’t mind some peopleand’s reaction against women being handcuffed during the police operation in Manisa. They know very well that they canand’t put those handcuffs on without permission from Ankara [the government],and” Baransu said, emphasizing that Arinandcand’s recent condemnation of the operation in Manisa was not sincere.
and”You can expect anything from those who hurt women, and” Baransu said, warning Arinandc about the government.
Baransu recalled Arinandcand’s statement and”This [handcuffing women] didnand’t even take place in dictatorships, and” which he made when condemning the operation, and said that reacting harshly against an unlawful event only after one loses his government position does not constitute having a conscience.
and”If dear Mr. Arinandc were sincere about this shame [the handcuffing], he had to do one thing and thatand’s stand by their side like those deputies from the CHP [Republican Peopleand’s Party] who he calls nonbelievers at every opportunity, and” Baransu said.
