Hasan Huseynli, imprisoned human rights defender, appeals to President Ilham Aliyev

Human rights defender Hasan Huseynli, who in a prison of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, has appealed to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with the mediation of the prison’s administration.

The public relations department of the Penitentiary Service told APA that the appeal reads as follows: “The latest ceasefire violation by Armenian aggressors and the Azerbaijani Army bravely retaliating for these acts of sabotage and taking full control of the situation along the front line in the short run proved once again that this mighty army, whose Supreme Commander-in-Chief is You, is capable of being the guarantor of the mighty state of Azerbaijan. This phenomenon, which was initially regarded as an ordinary military achievement, is in fact an obvious manifestation of the authenticity of solid arguments which you had brought up during your glorious last speech in Strasbourg about Azerbaijan being an independent, strong and capable of self-determination.

Dear Mr. President!

I would like to bring to your kind attention that I feel deep regret as I have been deprived of the opportunity to contribute to the solution of the problems that our country faces on these important days.

On the other hand, after I was detained by law enforcement authorities on the basis of a personal insult it became clear to me that some foreign politicians made statements that my arrest is based on political motives. I don’t accept it and I am sure that I will be proved right in the appeal court that I applied to regarding my arrest. Azerbaijan is a legal state and I believe in its protection by the Azerbaijani President. I don’t need my rights to be protected by any foreign politicians.

On March 31, Hasan Huseynli, the head of “Intelligent Citizen’’ Enlightenment Center was detained in Ganja. Huseynli was accused of wounding his fellow countryman Arzu Gahramanov with a knife. Later, Huseynli was released being in police custody. On July 14, Nizami District Court of Ganja city sentenced him to imprisonment for a period of 5 years and 11 months.
