The one-millionth tree was planted in the Zira settlement of the Khazar district in Baku within the ”Green Marathon” project.

Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Founder and Head of International Dialogue for Environmental Action Campaign, Leyla Aliyeva attended the event.

Aliyeva first viewed a state-of-the-art greenhouse complex constructed in the Zira settlement with the support of IDEA Public Union.

Tree and plant species rarely seen in Azerbaijan and imported from abroad are grown in the complex.

With 20 hectares of area, the complex employs over 100 people. Some 2-3 million plants and shrubs are grown here each year.

The greenhouse consists of six sections and grows 500 types of flowers. Seeds and seedlings are grown in these sections, and diseased plants treated.

Leyla Aliyeva later joined the tree-planting action and planted the one-millionth tree within the project “Green Marathon”.

In general, 5,000 trees were already planted in this area by nearly 100 volunteers of IDEA Public Union with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Leyla Aliyeva also viewed the IDEA Eco Park which is under construction and inquired about the conditions created for endangered animals in Azerbaijan.

The IDEA is implementing some large-scale local and international projects to protect the environment and to promote innovative approaches towards solving environmental problems.

The campaign is based on the principles of dialogue, action, leadership, and education – all the essential components for fostering positive and sustainable environmental change.

One of the most notable activities of the IDEA in the three past years since its establishment has been a massive tree planting campaign during which more than 3,472,000 trees have been planted.
