General Staff announces zel’s return to office

The official website of the General Staff issued a statement on Monday announcing that Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet andOzel has returned to office following a 15-day medical leave.
andquotChief of General Staff Gen. Necdet andOzel, who underwent successful surgery on May 9, 2015, has started his duty,andquot the statement declared.
On May 9, andOzel took 15 days of leave due to health problems and to undergo a minor operation. His leave followed claims by an opposition deputy, Gandursel Tekin of the Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP), that Turkey planned to send ground troops to Syria within a matter of days. Asked to comment on the prospects of an incursion into Syria, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoilu said the claims were and”speculativeand” and had no basis. and”There is no situation at the moment that Turkey would get involved in,and” he said.
Land Forces Commander Gen. Hulusi Akar served as acting chief of General Staff while andOzel was away.
andOzeland’s test results reportedly came out normal and he is reportedly in good health. The military chief asked that documents waiting for his approval be delivered to his house on Sunday prior to his return to office on Monday.
Some commentators asserted that the 15-day leave of andOzel, who is set to retire on Aug. 30, was part of the Turkish armyand’s passive resistance to the policies of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party). Other commentators had speculated on whether andOzel was planning an early retirement.
