Galatasaray to face Atletico Madrid for Soma victims

IZMIR (CIHAN)- A fund raising match will be played between Turkish football club Galatasaray and Spanish club Atletico Madrid at 9 p.m. on Wednesday to raise money for families of Soma mine accident victims.

In May 13, at least 283 coal miners died in western town of Soma after a blast, in what is Turkey’s worst industrial mining disaster.

Arriving in Izmir on Tuesday evening, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone and Turkish player Arda Turan held a press conference. Simeone extended his condolences to the families of slain workers saying that they will be very happy if the match will alleviate pain of the families somewhat.

The match will be held at Izmir’s Alsancak Stadium and kicks off at 9 p.m.
