French, Turks gather in Gallipoli to commemorate Çanakkale War

ÇANAKKALE (CIHAN)- French and Turkish officials observed the 99th anniversary of the troops comprising their countrymen landing at Gelibolu (the Gallipoli peninsula) during the World War I Çanakkale (Dardanelles)ampaign on Thursday.

The commemoration event was attended by Defense Minister Ismet YIlmaz, Çanakkale Governor Ahmet ÇInar, Consul General of France in Turkey Muriel Domenach, Defense Attaché of the French Embassy in Ankara Colonel Rémi Gauvin, retired French Gen. Erlice Irastorza and Turkish Army 4th Brigade Commander YIldIrIm Alel.

Addressing the visitors, Irastorza made a speech. Then Father Alexis Doucet of a French church in Ankara prayed in memory of those who lost their lives during the war. (Today’s ZamanCihan)
