Four prosecutors, one commander arrested in MIT trucks case

MERSIN: A court ruled for arrest of four prosecutors and an ex-commander who were involved in a search of Syria-bound trucks belonging to the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in January 2014.

On Wednesday, arrest warrants were issued for them at the request of the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) chief inspector by the Tarsus 2nd High Criminal Court. The prosecutors and commander were later detained and referred to court which began at 10: 30 a.m.

At around 2: 30 a.m. on Thursday, the court announced its decision to arrest former Adana Chief Public Prosecutor Suleyman Bagriyanik, former Adana Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Ahmet Karaca, Adana prosecutors Aziz Takci, Ozcan Sisman and former Adana Provincial Gendarmerie Regiment Commander Col. Ozkan Cokay in charge of “attempting to topple or incapacitate the Turkish government through the use of force or coercion and obtaining and exposing information regarding the security and political activities of the state.”.

Cokay will be sent to a military prison while the prosecutors will be sent to the Adana Kurkculer Prison.
