Former Chief of Defense Ministry’s Scientific-Research Center, Elchin Khalilov released

Baku: Former Chief of the Scientific-Research Center under the Ministry of Defense Elchin Khalilov has been released.

Baku Court of Grave Crimes told APA that judge Ahmad Guliyev presided over the preliminary hearing on the case of Elchin Khalilov who faced charges under articles #308.2 (abusing official powers) and #179.3.2 (misappropriation or embezzlement) of the Criminal Code. His lawyer appealed the court to commute his imprisonment to house arrest. The court sustained the appeal and he was released from the courtroom.

The hearing was scheduled for January 8.

As a result of the inspections carried out by the Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office, it was revealed that Former Chief of the Scientific-Research Center under the Ministry of Defence Elchin Khalilov flagrantly violated laws while working. The Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office has launched a criminal case under articles #308.2 (abusing official powers) and 341.1 (abusing by chief or official of authority or service position, excess of authority or service powers, deliberate inactivity of authority, if these acts were made regularly or from mercenary prompting or other personal interest, as well as caused essential harm) of the Criminal Code. The Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office sentenced him to 3-month pre-trial detention.

The investigation revealed that Elchin Khalilov misappropriated a great deal of state property by abusing his power.

Investigation is underway on the fact.
