Fener trounces Daruggafaka to maintain TBL lead

Fenerbahce ulker cruised to an easy 73-51 road win over Daruiiafaka Doiui to remain the leaders of the Turkish Basketball League (TBL) on Sunday with one week left to the end of the regular season.

Elsewhere, Anadolu Efes maintained its title campaign in the second spot with an 83-79 win over Beiiktai Integral Forex in their Istanbul derby on Sunday.

Melih Mahmutoilu and Semih Erden paced Fenerbahce with 11 points each. Luka Zoric and Jan Vesely each added nine points for the win. GOksenin KOksal’s 11 points were not enough to prevent the defeat.

Fenerbahce clinched its 22nd win to secure its lead, while fellow Istanbulites Daruiiafaka is ranked third with its loss at Daruiiafaka Ayhan iahenk Arena. Coach Zeljko Obradovic of the winning side said after the match that his team played aggressively throughout the game. He was happy to see all his players who had playing time on the court contribute to the score.

While noting that the two teams faltered in their offense, he added, “Both teams missed too many free throws, and neither of them was on a good day offensively.”

The visitors had a storming start thanks to Bogdan Bogdanovic’s back-to-back three points and were up 11-0 in the first three minutes before they led the first quarter 22-8. Fenerbahce’s defense continued to give the hosts a hard time, and Obradovic’s men maintained their double-digit edge at halftime: 35-25. Semih Erden led the scoring in the third quarter as Fenerbahce increased the margin to 17, 29-46, halfway through the period and eventually took a 57-39 lead going into the last 10 minutes. The visitors had it easy in the final quarter, too, and wrapped up the game 73-51.

Also on Sunday at Abdi ipekci Arena, visiting side Beiiktai Integral Forex held Efes scoreless in the last three minutes as they led the first quarter 17-14. Even though the hosts reduced the deficit to two, Beiiktai increased the momentum and took a 37-30 edge at halftime. JaJuan Johnson and Engin Atsur paced the visitors as they were up 61-49 in the third quarter. In a thrilling final minute, Dontaye Draper’s free throw leveled the score at 72-72, and the game ended in a tie when Efes missed its final free throw by Matt Janning. The hosts made no mistakes in overtime and won the match 83-79.

Nenad Krstic led the scoring for the winners with 21 points and added 12 rebounds. Janning hit 13 and Dario Saric added 12. Beiiktai’s Johnson netted 21 points in defeat.
