Elections board cancels Yalova poll results where CHP won

The Supreme Election Board (YSK) has canceled local poll results in Western Turkish province of Yalova, where the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) candidate won.

Initially, ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) won the Yalova mayoral post with a single vote.

After ballots were tallied in the March 30 elections, AK Party candidate Yakup Kocal won the mayoral post with just one vote ahead of his CHP rival.

The CHP objected to the poll results and appealed for a recount. The ballots were tallied again amid high-level security measures after the main opposition party’s appeal. The process lasted until the morning of April 2 as hundreds of CHP officials rushed to the center where the votes were being recounted to prevent rigging.

According to the vote recount, the CHP candidate won the municipal election by six votes.
