Drought and pollution endangers Lake Sapanca

SAKARYA (CIHAN)- Drought which has been highly effective in Lake Sapanca in the western province of Sakarya brought high amount of pollution in the lake with hundreds of bottles of alcoholic beverages.

Water level of Lake Sapanca, one of the few lakes in the world that supplies potable water, has been decreasing each year due to unconsciousness.

Speaking to Cihan news agency, vice president of Sapanca Lake and Nature Protection Association (GLDER) Alper Guven, people put lake in to danger apart from other factors such as drought and water loss. “As the citizens, we do not do their part to protect lake. Why does a person throw bottle into the lake? Along with the authorities, we should keep the lake clean,” said Guven.
