Doctors remove 5cm long leech from teenager’s nose

AMASYA: Doctors in the northern Turkish province of Amasya discovered a 5 centimeters long alive leech in the nose of a 15-year-old boy who went to the hospital with excessive nasal bleeding complaints.

After observing abnormal nasal bleeding symptoms on the patient, ear-nose-throat specialist of Amasya’s Sabuncuoglu Serefeddin hospital Mehmet Celik decided to make an endoscopic examination of his nose. He was shocked during the examination while he discovered a 5 centimeters long alive leech clenched to the left side intranasal canal of the patient. The boy urgently was hospitalized and the leech was removed after brief operation.

As no abnormal situations such as pyaemia was discovered as a result of the tests, the patient was discharged from hospital after a day.
