Deputy Minister: As Azerbaijani-Russian border is long, demarcation process will take several years; “Azerbaijani-Georgian border delimitation consultations will continue in early 2015”

Baku: “The process of delimitation of the borders between Azerbaijan and Georgia is underway. The major section of the state border has been already coordinated by the commissions, 1/3 boundary line remains uncoordinated. Relevant consultations will continue in early 2015,” said Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, APA reports.

Khalafov said in accordance with the requirements of the intergovernmental agreement on the delimitation of the border between Russia and Azerbaijan, both states are working on border demarcation.

“State commissions are operating in this direction. We have already had several meetings. We have already adopted regulatory documents and these documents have been approved by the Azerbaijani Parliament. After completing the documentation process, we will continue to work on the installation of boundary markers along the border and others. This is a long-term activity. As the Azerbaijani-Russian border is long, demarcation process will take several years. The state commissions will continuously operate during this period. Working groups under the state commissions will ensure coordination and consistency of actions,” he said.
