Criminal case launched on Azerbaijani offshore oil platform collapse resulting 3 workers getting swept to sea

Baku: A criminal case has been initiated on the Azerbaijani offshore oil platform collapse resulting three workers getting swept to sea.

Khazar District Prosecutor’s Office told APA that the criminal case has been launched on the incident occurred in platform #501 of “Oil Rocks” Oil and Gas Extraction Department (OGED) on Dec.4 under article #314 (negligence) of the Criminal Code.

An offshore oil platform has collapsed, due to a heavy storm, resulting in three offshore workers getting swept to sea on Dec 4. Powerful storm waves had destroyed a section of the Oil Rocks platform. The section is believed to have been one of the piers linking the platforms and may have contained some amount of accommodation facilities. The destroyed section of the offshore platform, has reportedly been swept to see along with the three missing workers, operator of the steam unit Javad Khudaverdiyev born 1971, mobile unit motorists Bahman budkada Jafarov born 1961 and Rovshan Mammadov born in 1974.

Sea search operations have been launched. The three oil workers are still missing.
