Coast guards rescue 131 immigrants on the verge of death

MERSIN: Turkish coast guard teams managed to rescue 131 illegal Syrian immigrants in a boat which was about to capsize in the treacherous waters of Mediterranean Sea amid the heavy thunderstorm.

Upon the S.O.S signals coming from the boat in danger, coast guards launched an air-assisted operation to rescue the undocumented immigrants. After determining the location coordinates, several fast intervention boats and a helicopter intervened in the fisher boat with 131 Syrians onboard off the southern province of Mersin coast trying to cross into Europe.

98 men, 12 women and 21 children a total of 131 Syrian refugees being brought to the Mersin port and provided with food and medical assistance.
