Clash leaves 18 militants dead in N. Afghanistan

Eighteen militants were killed as clash erupted in Kudnuz province on Friday, provincial police chief Abdul Sabour Nasrati said.

“A total of 18 Taliban rebels have been killed as clash flared up in Bagh-e-Shurkat area today morning,” Nasrati told reporters here.

Six more militants and five security personnel were injured in the fighting, the official added, saying sporadic fighting is still continuing in the area.

Meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media said the 15 security troopers had been killed in the firefight, a claim rebuffed by Nasrati as baseless.

Kunduz has been the scene of bloody clash between Taliban and security forces over the past couple of months. Enditem
