Cihan news agency under cyber attack

The Cihan news agency has been subjected to a barrage of cyber attacks launched in an effort to prevent the agency from reporting Sundayand’s general election results as the voting period ended.
Speaking to on the issue, the news agencyand’s General Manager Abdandulhamit Bilici said the agencyand’s website has been under heavy attack from unknown cyber groups with the aim of preventing the agency from reporting the election results to its readers and subscribers. He added: andquotHowever, despite these constant cyber attacks, the agency has been able to continue the flow of information of the election results to its subscribers.
When the users tried to enter website, they faced a andquot404 — Not Foundandquot warning, proving the website was hacked.
Ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Gaziantep deputy iamil Tayyar had said on the eve of the election that the Dogan news agency and Cihan might be hacked on the day of the election after voting finished at 5:00 p.m.
Bilici said the agencyand’s site was being attacked by and”hundreds of thousands of computersand” in a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, in which hackers bombarded the agencyand’s website with requests causing it to slow down or crash.
According to Cihan, the motive behind the attack was to render the agency unable to report the election results. Cihan is well known for its success in providing election results quickly and accurately. The agency reports election results in Turkish, English, Arabic and Russian.
