CHP leader says no one can intimidate party via attacks

Main opposition Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kiliandcdaroilu has spoken out about an incident in which several shots were fired in front of CHP headquarters in Ankara on Monday evening, saying if the attack aims to intimidate his party, it was unsuccessful and that people should know the party will not be intimidated.
Five shots were fired from an unidentified car in front of CHP headquarters in Ankara at around 7 p.m., CHP Secretary-General Gandursel Tekin said on Monday evening. Stating that the police are examining security camera footage to identify the car, Tekin said he hopes to find out more details of the incident later in the day.
Speaking to iMC TV on Monday night, Kiliandcdaroilu said the CHP is not a party that can be intimidated by a few gunshots. and”We are powerful. We are defending democracy and freedoms. If we need to pay the price for that, we are ready to pay this price. No one should doubt this,and” Kiliandcdaroilu said.
Saying that acting Interior Minister Selami Altinok had briefed Tekin on the attack, Kiliandcdaroilu said the Ankara Police Department is trying to identify the license plate of the attackersand’ car, adding he hopes the perpetrators will be caught soon.
Kiliandcdaroilu also said they had not received any intelligence about an attack on their headquarters, adding however there had been some warnings on planned attacks against the leaders of political parties. The CHP leader also noted the headquarters of the pro-Kurdish Peoplesand’ Democratic Party (HDP) had been exposed to a more serious attack earlier, adding that political parties are an essential part of democracy and that if anyone wants to defend democracy, they should provide political parties the necessary environment in which they can operate freely.
The HDP headquarters were attacked early in September when a nationalist crowd attacked the HDP building and broke its windows. According to some media reports, the crowd attempted to set the building on fire.
The CHP leader also said the government must take the necessary precautions to protect political parties, adding the perpetrators of such attacks should be detained as soon as possible and the necessary legal actions must be taken against them.
