CHP deputy candidate injured in armed attack in Adana

Main opposition Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP) female deputy candidate Elif Dogan Tandurkmen was shot in her foot in an armed attack in the southern city of Adana on Tuesday morning.

According to the Dogan news agency, Tandurkmen, the CHPand’s first-place candidate for Adana, was hit in the leg by three bullets fired from a white car when she exited her car to go at a restaurant for an event of andcukurova Young Businessmenand’s Association (andcUGiAD) around 9 a.m. on Tuesday The attackers fled the area and Tandurkmen was taken to hospital.
In her remarks to reporters after the attack, Tandurkmen stated that she was in good health and suggested that the armed attack aimed to frighten her.
The car used by the attackers was found abandoned in the districtand’s Karsli neighborhood. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Adana Governor Mustafa Banduyanduk said the car used in the attack was rented, and police teams have been on the alert to find the attackers.
On May 23, a deputy candidate from the ruling Justice and Development Partyand’s (AK Party), Ramazan Demir, was stabbed three times by an attacker during his visit to Adanaand’s Aladai district in the course of his election campaign. Demir is still in hospital, and the 31-year-old attacker Faruk S. was arrested over the incident.
