Canaries show staying power as Sow gets last laugh against Eagles

A 90+1 minute goal by crowd favorite Moussa Sow capped a derby of tension, injury and missed chances between Fenerbahandccedile and BeIiktaI on Sunday night.

Young keeper Ganduumlnay Ganduumlvenandccedil could have gone down in history if he had held up a clean slate against the Yellow Canaries at home, and he did until the very end.

“I am so sad. I was excited to go in and I did what I could.

Every goalie waits for the moment to prove themselves, and I tried to be ready at every moment,” Ganduumlnay said. “It was my first Super League match.

I’m sad that I conceded,” he added.

BeIiktaI started the match with recently recovered first string keeper Tolga Zengin, who has been under fire from fans for his performance against Club Brugge.

Cenk Gandoumlnen is also injured, so when Tolga went down in the first half with tears streaming down his face, Bilic replaced him with Ganduumlnay.

It is hard to blame any keeper, much less a green one, for an almost inevitable result.

Fenerbahandccedile simply does not lose derbies at home. But everyone hopes of finally sticking it to the Canaries at KadIkandoumly.

“We definitely did not deserve to lose this game. Especially in the second half, we were a better team We should have scored and we conceded a goal on the counter attack, which is hard to take,” BeIiktaI coach Slaven Bilic said.

“We have to blame ourselves for conceding a very cheap goal like this on a counter attack,” he added.

h2Problems with the publich2 Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike dodged Necip Uysal in the 19th minute to miss while one-on-one with Tolga

Outbursts of tension are inevitable in derbies.

But they are usually between opposing players. Emenike got fed up with fan abuse, as they called for Sow to come on instead.

He ripped off his shirt and stomped off the pitch, only to be stopped and sent back out by the coaching staff. Before play resumed Bruno Alves and Emre BelandoumlzoIlu had entered the scene, fighting with Bilic.

Sow ended up coming in at the end of the snafu, but for injured Raul Meireles. Everyone managed to avoid being carded, including Emenike, who was replaced by Pierre Webo at the half.

The injuries list was topped off when Tolgay Arslan came off after smashing heads with Emre and Kuyt came off in the second half.

“We had trouble at the start of the match due to things beyond our control.

Before the match Gandoumlkhan Gandoumlnanduumll was injured, then there was the Emenike situation. After that Raul was injured.

We experienced all the negatives a trainer can experience,” coach Ismail Kartal said.

h2Missed chancesh2 Fenerbahandccedile perhaps should have had another goal by midfielder Alper Potuk, who sent one ball just over Ganduumlnay’s goal and curled another wide.

BeIiktaI’s Demba Ba took the ball deep into the corner before centering a pass Caner Erkin blocked. Keeper Volkan Demirel beat Ba to a pass that had been popped into the goal box.

The Senegalese striker shot on a run straight at the goal, but Volkan came out to deflect it back to OIuzhan andOumlzyakup, who skipped it just over the bar

“We at least deserved a draw here to keep us on the top with Galatasaray, or a win to put us seven points ahead of them Now everything is starting again, with one point between us all with nine matches to go,” Bilic said.

After winning, Galatasaray recovered a tenuous leadership position with 55 points, BeIiktaI is next with 54 and Fenerbahandccedile has 53.

“The fans should trust us. We did not let them down.

We wanted to score in the first minute, but it came in the last. It is an important victory and God willing, we will win the remaining nine and be [the] champion,” Kartal said.

But despite the defeat, BeIiktaI and Galatasaray have a slight edge over the Canaries, so Fenerbahandccedile should stop waiting until the very end to strike.

In other Sunday matches, Trabzonspor defeated Akhisar Belediye Genandccedillik ve Spor 2-0 and Istanbul BaIakIehir defeated GenandccedillerbirliIi 3-1 to creep into fourth place.
