ienol Ganduneiand’s Bursaspor handed Super League title contender Fenerbahandce what might be considered a humiliating 3-0 home defeat on Thursday and overturned a 2-1 deficit from the first leg match to make its way to the final of the Turkish Cup 4-2 on aggregate.
Bursaspor is set to face Galatasaray, which knocked Sivasspor out of the tournament, in Bursa on June 3. The former Turkey coach has been popular among the football powerhouses with the seasonand’s end just around the corner. Media outlets report that Beiiktai, preparing to part ways with Croatian coach Slaven Bilic due to disappointing results, is interested in Gandunei, while the coach said he has not received an official offer from the Istanbul club. He noted that his contract with Bursaspor is effective until the end of the season and that he will have talks with the club after the Turkish Cup final in early June. He added that there are also offers coming in from abroad.
For Fenerbahandce coach Kartal it was a disastrous night, as he heard fans for the first time calling for him to step down. He apologized after the match, saying that he accepted the blame. Kartal stated that he had planned to use the Turkish Cup as a platform where the young players could gain experience. and”But 3-0 at home is not very nice, andquot he added. The coach praised Bursaspor as one of the top-performing sides in Turkey.
Kartaland’s side will still try to remain focused on the race for the Super League title, as it trails leader Galatasaray by three points with two weeks to go. andquotThis match is now behind us. Weand’ll start working from tomorrow on in order to concentrate for the weekendand’s matches, and” Kartal stated.
Regarding the calls for him to resign, Kartal said fans might be right to be upset, but that he had his reasons for choosing the lineup that drew their scorn, adding: and”We did not have four important regulars… I didnand’t have a lot of options as to foreign players because of a limit [on the foreign players he could use]. I apologize once again.and”
