Besiktas midfielder wounded in armed assault at nightclub

Besiktas’s Germany-born Turkish midfielder Gokhan Tore and five others were wounded during an armed assault at a nightclub in Istanbul’s Sisli early on Monday.

Following the derby game against Fenerbahce on Sunday, Tore and his teammates had reportedly gone to a nightclub in Sisli’s Esentepe neighborhood, where Tore and five others were shot by a man out of anger after his girlfriend complained over Tore disturbing her.

A statement released by Besiktas said that Tore had nothing to do with provoking the armed assault and that police have started an investigation into the incident.

Tore, who was shot in the shoulder, was immediately taken to Florence Nightingale Hospital for treatment.
