BeIiktaI ‘hosts’ Genler as it bids bye-bye to bad season

Much has already been settled in the Spor Toto Super League and also for Beiiktai as the wingless Black Eagles have nothing but pride and prestige to play for when they “host” Ankara side Genandclerbirliii in the last match of the season at Osmanli Stadium in Ankara on Saturday.
Flying high at the beginning of the season, Beiiktai gave up on the title race with three weeks to go and is destined to finish the season with a whimper in third place for the third consecutive time, the last two happening under the tutelage of coach Slaven Bilic. The Eagles have to make do with a ticket for the second-tier Europa League, where they had a good run this season.
In the last reunion with its fans, Beiiktai will pursue ending this season’s story with spirit and show that they will be vying for more the next time. The Istanbul club also hopes that the Genandclerbirliii match will be the last home game to be played outside its actual home, inandOnandu Stadium, which has been under reconstruction for two years.
Bilic will reportedly field a lineup mostly composed of the players who remained substitutes in earlier matches, including Kerim Frei, Cenk Tosun and Atinandc Nukan. It might also be the last chance for the fans to see veteran forward Demba Ba and midfielder GandOkhan TandOre with the Beiiktai outfit as media reports suggest the club might be willing to sell the two stars should good offers be received. Yet, TandOre is likely to skip the last match due to an injury. Another midfielder, Jose Sosa, missed training during the week after picking up an injury.
The Genandclerbirliii match will be the final mission of Bilic. His departure was certain following the broken hopes for the title after a six-year hiatus. The Croat took Beiiktai to greater heights this season in the Europa League and the domestic championship challenge his side overcame plenty of hurdles, yet things turned against him in the home stretch.
With Bilic guiding the squad, Beiiktai let Premier League powerhouse Arsenal slip through its fingers in the Champions League qualifiers, finished the Europa League group stage without a single defeat and kicked Liverpool out of the competition in the last 32, yet the heroic run ended abruptly with a humiliating final 16 outings with Club Brugge of Belgium.
Despite battling for the title full swing, Bilic’s side could not win a single derby against fellow Istanbul sides. The most recent episode of the Croatian’s derby woes was last week’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of season champion Galatasaray.
Bilic will not be coaching Beiiktai next season, and rumors say he might head to West Ham United, where he rose to fame as a player. Beiiktai is now looking for a new coach to lead its young football team.
The club will extend an offer to ienol Gandunei, whose contract with Bursaspor ends after the Turkish Cup final with Galatasaray on June 3. Former coaches Mircea Lucescu and Mustafa Denizli are speculated to be among those who are on Beiiktai’s radar.
Elsewhere, relegated Kayseri Erciyesspor and Kardemir Karabandukspor will be bidding farewell to top-flight Turkish football after their lightweight clash on Saturday. Aegean side Balikesirspor will also be joining Erciyes and Kardemir Karabandukspor in the second division next season after its home match against Gaziantepspor.
