Azercell to be main network provider of Baku 2015

All mobile operators will use Azercell’s multioperator system at the main venues of the European Games, Azercell Telecom reports.

Full-scale preparations are on the way to host another global international event in Azerbaijan.

Baku 2015, Europe’s first senior multi-sport event, will gather more than 6,000 athletes from 49 countries affiliated to the European Olympic Committees to compete in 19 sports in Azerbaijan’s capital on June 12-28.

Azercell Telecom will become a provider of mobile communication for all customers at the stadiums and other event venues of Baku 2015.

By providing high-class service and uninterrupted network for many years since its launch, Azercell has been selected telecom provider of such a large-scale international event.

Azercell will be the one to install an internal multi-operator system at the major game venues as the Olympic Stadium and the National Gymnastics Arena.

An internal multi-operator system has already been set at the latter facility. Similar installation will be provided at the Olympic Stadium upon the completions of the construction works.

This unique system to be placed at the stadium with over 68,000 seats capacities is capable to serve more than 80,000 subscribers. An internal multi-operator system provides all mobile operators to place and operate their radio-base stations at the same time.

As Azercell Telecom is the sole provider of the system in these venues, other mobile operators will work only using the system installed by Azercell.

Azercell introduced in-house multioperator mobile system installation in Azerbaijan for the first time. In general, the mobile operator in Azerbaijan was the first to install this system among the countries of TeliaSonera Group Azercell is a part of.

On the eve of this remarkable event the leading mobile operator of Azerbaijan also plans to install additional 20 radio-base stations on the Olympic route and in the Olympic village.

This will provide the athletes with reliable network both in the residential and training area. In addition, all of the transportation means for the athletes will be also covered with a reliable network.

For this purpose Azercell plans to install special mobile Radio-Base Stations as well as the Company will strengthen 3G and 4G networks both in Baku and in the regions.

Azercell again will provide all of its subscribers and the visiting delegations with the uninterrupted and high quality communication services during the Baku Games.

By the end of 2013 the number of Azercell’s subscribers reached 4.5 million people. Azercell deployed 3G in and the fourth generation network – LTE in Azerbaijan in 2012.
