Azerbaijani, Turkish diasporas stage protest in Brussels

Baku: On March 30, the diaspora organizations of Azerbaijan and Turkey held a protest action in Brussels in connection with March 31 – the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.

The main objective of the protest was to inform the world community about the objection of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities in Europe to the acts of terrorism and genocide committed against the Azerbaijani and Turkish people at various stages of history, “Armenian genocide” claims, the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and the Khojaly genocide, the State Committee for Work with Diaspora told APA.

More than 400 representatives of the Azerbaijani and Turkish diasporas attended the two-hour protest.

The protesters first gathered outside the European Parliament in the Luxembourg square. Then they marched through the central streets of Brussels toward the Armenian embassy.

The statement adopted on behalf of the protesters was read out outside the Armenian embassy.

The statement expressed protest against the recognition of the 1915 events as “Armenian genocide” by the Armenian diaspora, stressing that only the Anatolian and South Caucasian Turks were subjected to genocide during these events.

The Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and the Khojaly genocide were also noted in the statement. The protesters asked the world community to support a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which emerges as a result of the illusion of “Great Armenia” and poses a great threat to the regional security, and makes efforts to put an end to the aggressive and terrorist policy of Armenia.
