Azerbaijani President attends opening of Heydar Mosque

Baku: The Heydar Mosque was opened in Baku on December 26.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, his wife Mehriban Aliyeva and family members attended the opening ceremony, APA reports.

This new mosque was constructed in a total area of 12,000 square meters under the instructions of the head of state. The facade is revetted with special ornamental stones in the Shirvan-Absheron architectural style. 4 minarets of 95 meters in height were constructed.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the verse from Quran.

President Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech and expressed congratulations regarding the opening of the Heydar Mosque that is a significant event in the history of the country.

Then Chairman of the Coordination Council of Muslims in the North Caucasus, Mufti of Karachay-Cherkessia Republic of the Russian Federation Ismail Berdiyev, Head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archbishop of Baku and the Caspian Eparchy Alexander Ishein, Head of the Mountain Jews Community in Baku Milikh Yevdayev, Authorized Representative of the Caucasian Muslim Board in Moscow Shafig Pshikhachev and Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

Finally they prayed for the souls of national leader Heydar Aliyev, his spouse Zarifa Aliyeva, and martyrs.
