Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reacts to anti-Azerbaijani article by officials of some int’l organizations

Hikmat Hajiyev: “Those persons act the element of the ordered campaign to discredit Azerbaijan conducted by some circles of the eve of the first European Games”

Officials of some international organizations abuse their status and act as the element of the ordered campaign to discredit Azerbaijan conducted by some circles of the eve of the first European Games, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev said on June 4, commenting on the article published on the openDemocracy portal authored by Nils Muiznieks (Council of Europe), Michel Forst (UN Rapporteur) and Dunja Mijatovic (OSCE).

Hajiyev said with these deeds, these persons proved once again that they serve only the interests of some political circles rather than the purposes and objectives of the organizations they represent.

“Sports and in fact, the first European Games serve intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, friendship, partnership and peace in Europe. Though the UN General Assembly resolution “Sport as a means to promote education, health, development and peace” adopted in the 69th session on 31 October 2014 emphasized the significance of the European Games, these persons’ insidious attempts toward the European Games is contrary to the will of the international community.

Unfortunately, when talking about human rights, these persons don’t dare to say a word about the rights of over a million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced people, who as a result of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan were deprived of all their fundamental rights, reflected in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as a result of aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan”, he noted.
