Azerbaijani FM receives U.S. congressmen

Baku: Mubariz Aslanov; Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has today received Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives Ed Royce and a delegation of congressmen accompanying him.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted that the parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation between the countries’ legislative bodies are of great importance to the development of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations, the ministry’s press service told APA.

Stating that the visits of the U.S. delegations to Azerbaijan on various levels serve strengthening of mutual understanding, Mammadyarov noted the importance of increasing the number of such visits.

Informing the U.S. delegation about the process of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the minister said that the settlement of the conflict will contribute to all-round development of the region. Mammadyarov said except for Armenia, Azerbaijan has high-level relations with all neighboring states and in order to build relations with Armenia, this country should stop its aggressive policy against Azerbaijan and withdraw its armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
