Azerbaijani embassy in France comments on scandal at Nagorno-Karabakh event in Paris

Strasbourg: The Azerbaijani embassy in France has commented on Tuesday’s scandal that broke out during an event dedicated to Nagorno-Karabakh, organized by the Armenian diaspora in Paris.

The embassy has told APA’s Europe correspondent that Azerbaijan-France relations are developing, with the two countries signing agreements on education, science, culture, economics, agriculture, and energy.

“Azerbaijan attaches huge importance to political cooperation with France. Thanks to appropriate measures being taken, politicians, scientists, journalists as well as ordinary citizens friendly to and supportive of us growing in numbers. During meetings with media representatives, French media outlets seem to voice Azerbaijan’s position much more frequently. That is bothersome to 600,000-strong Armenian community. The Armenian community, which has traditionally had strong influence, is now losing positions in the political and media war against our country. While French politicians and media outlets used to back Armenian positions as to issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict before, the current situation is going to change. Our position also has begun winning attention, along with the Armenians’. It should be noted that France recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and has affirmed it repeatedly,” the embassy noted.

The embassy also added that while a few years ago some French companies used to organized tours to occupied Azerbaijani territories, the number of those companies has reduced to zero since the embassy’s intervention.

“The Azerbaijani side organized 3 events in city hall of the 5th arrondissement of Paris. The successful organization of the events does not go unnoticed. Representative of the Armenian community, deputy mayor of the 5th arrondissement of Paris, Flora Kalustyan decided to hold a science conference on Nagorno-Karabakh. The conference presided over by math teacher Claude Mutafian, considering himself as a historian, was organized on May 19. The embassy, of course, did not receive an invitation to this event, but we were able to get the invitation thanks to our friends. Representatives of the Azerbaijani embassy in France, French Society of Friends of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani House in France and other active compatriots attended the event. As usual, the Armenians tried to prove that Nagorno-Karabakh is a historical territory of Armenia through “Armenian maps” made by Photoshop basing no serious source. However, we responded to such nonsense. The embassy representatives proved with facts that these claims are false. Instead of responding, the Armenians hissed the diplomats, trying to silence the Azerbaijani side trough clamor and started leaving the hall. Along with purposeful works being carried out to inform the French community about the truth regarding our country and the conflict, the Embassy is also closely following the activities of numerous Armenian communities, institutions and organizations. We are taking an immediate measure in case of any provocation and attempts of showing a negative image of our country,” the embassy stressed.
