Azerbaijani Defense Minister: “No threat is expected to neighboring countries through Azerbaijan’s territory”

Baku: Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov and Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan has today held a joint press conference in Tehran, APA reports quoting Mehr news agency.

Hasanov said today is the second day of his visit to Iran and thanked his Iranian counterpart and people for a sincere and harm welcome: “Azerbaijan and Iran have friendly and fraternal relations. As you know, the Azerbaijani President has recently paid an official visit to Iran. Decisions were taken on the expansion of cooperation in various fields, including military during the visit.

We held meetings with Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Defense Minister and first Vice-President and discussed important issues, including regional and international issues. The two countries have a great potential for military cooperation. Iran’s military industry has developed very well. We held talks in this regard and considered the continuation of cooperation in this area.”

Asked about the deployment of Israel’s bases in Azerbaijan for military invention in Iran, Hasanov said that no threat is expected to neighboring countries through the territory of Azerbaijan: “This is an official policy of Azerbaijan. We have always announced our country’s official policy in international and regional organizations. According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, any military base of a third country can not be deployed in the territory of Azerbaijan and we will not allow any force to attack neighboring countries through the Azerbaijani lands.”

Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov arrived in Iran for an official visit on April 14. The visit takes place at the invitation of the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan. An official welcome ceremony was held for the Azerbaijani Defense Minister yesterday. Afterwards, Hasanov visited the grave of those killed in Iran-Iraq war. Following this, the Azerbaijani and Iranian defense ministers met at Iran’s Defense Ministry. At the same time, the Azerbaijani minister plans to meet with Iranian officials. On April 15, Zakir Hasanov met with Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Major General Sayyid Hassan Firouzabadi.
