Azerbaijani defense minister meets with Georgian counterpart

Baku: Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov on Wednesday met with his Georgian counterpart Ms Tinatin Khidasheli, who is on an official to Azerbaijan, the Defense Ministry said.

The Georgian delegation first visited the graves of Heydar Aliyev and Zarifa Aliyeva in the Honorary Alley as well as the Alley of Martyrs.

Later on, an official welcoming ceremony for the Georgian defense minister took place at the Defense Ministry.

At the expanded meeting of the delegations, Zakir Hasanov put special stress on the fact that military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia is taking place within bilateral and NATO-led programs and trainings as well as in the format of Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia military structures.

Recalling that the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia has deep historical roots and are steadily developing based on friendly relations, Hasanov said Armenia poses a main threat to the regional stability constantly supporting separatism and striving to create tension along the frontline.

Moreover, the sides exchanged views on the expansion of cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Georgian defense ministries, opportunities for military and military-education cooperation, prospects of holding joint drills with the involvement of various types of troops, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
