Baku: The meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the city of Sochi was the main phase of the country’s mediation in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, says the statement issued by Russia’s Foreign Ministry, APA reports.

The statement on the outcomes of 2014 says that the Sochi meeting paved the way to reduce tension in the conflict zone and clarify the positions of the parties.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry also emphasized the joint activity with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in 2014. The mediators held five meetings with Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents, as well as a number of consultations with the foreign ministers of the two countries.
