Azerbaijan set to deprive those involved in terrorist acts of citizenship

Baku: Azerbaijan may deprive those involved in terrorist acts of citizenship.

The law on citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan will undergo amendments.

A draft law on the matter is to be discussed during today’s joint meeting of the parliamentary committee on legal policy and state building, and the committee on public associations and religious organizations.

The draft law is meant to make additions (3-1 and 3-2) to Article 18 on loss of citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With the latest amendments, involvement in terrorist acts and an attempt to change the constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan by force, involvement in extremist religious activities or military trainings in a foreign country under the guise of spiritual education, promotion of religious sectarianism or participation in sectarian conflicts in a foreign country under the guise of religious duties as well as recruiting others or creating armed groups for such a cause, will result in loss of Azerbaijani citizenship.
