Azerbaijan pursued an independent policy among the post-Soviet countries over the last 20 years

Baku: Aynur Aliyeva; “Azerbaijan pursued an independent policy among the post-Soviet countries over the last 20 years. It was not controlled. It is very important for us. But for Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project, could Azerbaijan maintain its independence? New energy projects are also contributing to the independence of Azerbaijan,”

APA-Economics reports that U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar said it at the first international Caspian Energy Forum-2014 in Baku today.

The Ambassador also touched on the issue of America’s gas export to Europe. He noted that U.S. President Barack Obama also delivered a speech in this regard: “The U.S. is waiting for gas export to Europe. However, it must obtain a license. We don’t think that it will affect Azerbaijan, as we should diversify our energy sources. There is a demand for both the U.S. and Caspian gas.”
