Azerbaijan, Iran eye co-op prospects

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov has met Iranian ambassador Mohsun Pakayin to discuss prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

The sides exchanged views over results of the Azerbaijani minister`s recent visit to Tehran, AzerTag state news agency reported.

They also discussed military and political situation in the region, and the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Iranian military attaché in Azerbaijan Amir Faraji Moez was present at the meeting.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.
