Armenia’s ruling party names PM candidate

ERIVAN (CIHAN)- The ruling Republican Party of Armenia on Sunday named Hovik Abrahamyan, speaker of the Armenian parliament, as the candidate for prime minister.

The nomination, presented by President Serzh Sargsyan, who leads the Republican Party, was endorsed unanimously by the top brass of the party, said Eduard Sharmazanov, the party’s press secretary.

Former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stepped down on April 3, without giving the reason. But his resignation was widely believed to be related to a highly controversial pension reform. (CihanXinhua)
