Apocalyptica, Behemoth headline Rock Off festival in Istanbul

Polish death metal pioneers Behemoth and Finnish heavy metal cellists Apocalyptica capped this year’s Rock Off festival in Istanbul on Sunday, performing back to back before a packed crowd of festival-goers filling the outdoor venue Life Park in Maslak, organizers said in a press release on Monday.
The second edition of the outdoor festival, a joint effort between concert promoters Pozitif Live and Freebird Agency, featured live performances by 18 rock and heavy metal acts in two days.
Behemoth unrolled the set list in its first appearance in Istanbul in five years with “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” and went on to play such hits as “Ov Fire and the Void,” “Conquer All” and “Decade Ov Therion.”
Finnish quartet Apocalyptica was the headliner of the bill, which also included performances by American metal bands Korn and Soulfly, French heavy metallers Gojira, Swedish death metal bands Unleashed and Dark Tranquillity, Canadian metal band Annihilator, Turkish rocker Murat ilkan, English band My Dying Bride and Finnish folk metal band Korpiklaani.
Opening its set list with “Till Death Do Us Part” from their 2015 album “Shadowmaker,” Apocalyptica also played other songs from that album, including “Cold Blood,” and earlier songs such as “Grace” from their 2007 release “Worlds Collide.” The band also performed symphonic covers of songs by bands Sepultura and Metallica.
The festival also featured an alternative stage called Dragon’s Den, which hosted acoustic performances by the acts performing in the festival, who also signed their albums for festival-goers. Pozitif Live said TL 5 from each ticket sold for the festival was donated to animal shelters in Turkey.
