Ambassador: ‘NATO highly appreciates Azerbaijan’s support to ISAF operations’

Baku: “Azerbaijan is a very important and valued partner for NATO”.

The statement came from Romanian ambassador to Azerbaijan Cristian Ciobanu in his speech during an international conference titled “NATO Summit Wales 2014: Prognoses and perspectives” held in Baku.

The ambassador said relations between NATO and Azerbaijan have significantly developed over the past years, adding that the sides are actively cooperating in democratic, institutional and defensive spheres. He noted that NATO is cooperating with Azerbaijan in the field of training and modernizing the armed forces: “Azerbaijan’s support to ISAF operations and contributions to the global counter-terrorism campaign are of great importance to NATO. The financial and military assistance Azerbaijan that has provided to ISAF operations is the reflection of Azerbaijan’s practical cooperation with NATO and its serious efforts to ensure security in the region. NATO highly appreciates it”.

The diplomat added that close cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan is tremendously contributing to stability and security in the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea regions: “Romania, as a member of NATO and the EU, stands ready to provide active support to expansion of Azerbaijan’s relations with European and Euro-Atlantic institutes”
