Kurds and their rightsThe first generation of andquothuman rights,andquot considered the most fundamental rights, was developed when the West lost hope in the church and the absolutist monarchies that garnered all the powers and authorities. Then, the second and third generation rights were also made into laws.

The West couldnand#39t rely on religion as the source of these rights. This was because the church, which was identified with religion, was part of the problem Necessarily, the West headed for andquotsecularandquot references.

Here the intellectuals, scientists and philosophers who opted for reason as the basis of their inquiries played a crucial role. Currently, powerful lobbies, states and vocal marginal groups can ensure that the crimes, sins and wrongdoing — which deteriorate the very spirit of law and morality — are treated as part of andquothuman rights.

andquot As this rights theory goes beyond limits, it starts to give way to unintended consequences.There is clearly a rights issue in the Muslim world.

Not only governments, but also groups (sects, factions, communities, etc.) violate rights of each other They comply neither with the injunctions of their religions nor with the Westand#39s human rights.

The Kurdish armed insurgency that has been going on for about 40 years is justified — apart from its regional and global repercussions — based on three factors. Kurds rightly argue that their ethnic identities are ignored by the socio-political system and they are deprived of their right to use their mother tongue.

The role Kurds, as a nation, played or play or may play in the past, current or future political formations is of secondary importance. The matter has three components:First, all legal and constitutional obstacles to Kurdsand#39 articulation of their ethnic identities within the system Second, Kurds should be allowed to use their mother tongue freely in education and other areas in addition to Turkish as the official language.

Third, the social and economic welfare level of the region where Kurds live predominantly should be improved.Anyone who reads and correctly understands the Holy Quran should champion these rights.

The following verse defines the main framework of ethnicities and right to use mother tongue: andquotAnd among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your languages and colors. Surely in this are signs indeed for people who have knowledge (of the facts in creation, and who are free of prejudices)andquot (Sura Rum, 30:22).

This verse indicates that racial, national and ethnic differences are the works of God. The Earth is like a garden teeming with all sorts of colors, linguistic and other diversities.

Diverse creatures were created in heavens and on Earth. Human beings live on Earth and have different colors and languages.

These colors and languages are divine. Therefore, they cannot be taken as source of discrimination.

Whoever takes them as source of discrimination is indulging in racismEvery linguistic and color group has its unique characteristics, names and tendencies. But they do not constitute legitimate justifications for one groupand#39s dominating over others.

In his Farewell Sermon, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), made the final point: andquotAll mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white.andrdquoThe linguistic or color groups and naturally formed nations and communities have equal rights.

None of them can be granted fewer rights.
