Ali Hasanov receives Head of Azerbaijan Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross

Baku: Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Refugees and IDPs, Ali Hasanov has today met with the Head of Azerbaijan Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross Deniz Duran.

APA reports quoting he State Committee for Work with Refugees and IDPs that Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov expressed Azerbaijan’s concern about the fate of Azerbaijanis taken hostage by Armenians and giving no information regarding them and noted that the president pays attention to these issues.

It was noted that these persons are internally displaced persons: “Aim of these persons’ visit there is homesickness and visit to the graves of their relatives. These persons have been taken hostage by invaders in the territories of Azerbaijan recognized by the UN. They did not violate the borders and norm and principles of any international law. However, Armenian side issues incorrect statements about those persons and rejects to apply provisions arising from 1949 Geneva Convention on “Protection of Civillians during the war” staining them as a criminal group”.

They also stressed importance of activity of the ICRC on the persons taken hostage and working intensively in this direction.

The meeting has also been attended by Head of the Working Group of the State Commission on Prisoners of War Hostages and Missing persons Firudin Sadigov.
