Al Di Meola to delight Ankara audience at music festival

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- American jazz fusion guitarist Al Di Meola is one of the outstanding performers in this week’s program of the Ankara International Music Festival, which is currently marking its 31st edition.

Di Meola will delight music lovers in the Turkish capital when he takes to the stage on Thursday night at the Congresium Ankara International Convention and Exhibition Center (ATO) with his ensemble. The 60-year-old guitarist, who has gained prominence with albums such as “Friday Night in San Francisco,” will perform songs from his 2013 album “All Your Life: A Tribute To the Beatles” in a concert titled “Beatles and More.”

Di Meola and his ensemble, featuring Peo Alfonsi on guitar, Fausto Beccalossi on accordion and Peter Kaszas on drums and percussion, will be accompanied on the stage by the Sturcz String Quartet from Hungary — made up of violinists Oláh Vimos and Szilágyi Péter, viola player BenkI Gyula and cellist Sturcz András — in the festival concert.

The Thursday night performance will also mark the 12th concert in 2014 Di Meola will be playing to promote his latest release “All Your Life,” which features him “interpreting 14 familiar Beatles tunes in the stripped down setting of strictly acoustic guitar,” according to the website of the musician.

Organized annually by the Ankara-based Sevda-Cenap And Music Foundation (SCAMV) with contributions from several state institutions such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the festival will continue until April 30.

Thursday’s performance starts at 8:30 p.m.
