Afgan president arrives in Baku

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has embarked on a working visit to Azerbaijan.

A guard of honor was arranged for the Afghan leader at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, AzerTag news agency reported.

Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai was welcomed by Energy Minister Natig Aliyev and other officials.

Afghanistan recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on December 21, 1991. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on November 16, 1994. Azerbaijani ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is concurrently accredited to Afghanistan. The embassy of Afghanistan to Azerbaijan was opened in November, 2012.
