45th meeting of PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee kicks off in Baku

Baku: The 45th meeting of the Legal and Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) has today started in Baku.

Delivering a keynote speech, Chairman of the Committee Mikhail Emelyanov hailed the rapid development of Azerbaijan. Informing about the agenda of the meeting, Emelyanov said a new chairman of the Committee will be elected as part of the meeting.

Speaking on behalf of the parliament’s leadership, vice-speaker Valeh Alasgarov said that Azerbaijan has high-level relations with all BSEC member countries, except Armenia.

Alasgarov said that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be commissioned by late 2015, and it will enable the transportation of goods from Beijing to London.

“BSEC also plays a role in the implementation of these projects. However, BSEC is not active enough in comparison with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. To my mind, in case that the status and opportunities of the PABSEC are enhanced, it will give impetus to further development of cooperation among the member states,” he added.

The meeting continued behind closed doors.
